Venice is one of the most popular tourist locations in Italy. Encompassinga total of 118 islands, its main attraction is that it is entirely scuplted by around 170 canals. These canals act as roads for the people of Venice. There are no cars in Venice, the people either walk or take a boat to wherever they need to go. One of the biggest issues that Venice faces is that its islands are slowly sinking. This can be easily observed in certain situations where the water rises high enough to flood the city itself.
Interestingly, because of all of the tourist activity (fun fact, the world's first casino was opened in Venice, in 1638), the population of Venice has been exponentially shrinking. In the last 50 years, Venice has lost around 60,000 people. This is largely because Venice has been treated as purely a tourist attraction by both foreigners and locals who are trying to make a quick buck off of tourists. It is projected that Venice will eventually be a ghost town. If not by flooding, it'll be caused by tourism.
